- Over 2,900 Americans die after al-Qaeda hijack four airliners in a suicide attack. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 are deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center. Both towers would later collapse. American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. United Airlines Flight 93 aimed at Washington DC crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after the passengers attempted to take down the hijackers.

- A grid search for young girl, Aretha Green, begins. Among those in attendance are then Patrol Officer Christian Garland and his superior, Duty Captain Carl Mannox. However, the search is called off due to attacks at the World Trade Center. (SVU: "Tangled Strands of Justice")
