6 January
The US Capitol Building is stormed by up to 2500 Donald Trump supporters in a riot in an attempt to overturn Trump's defeat in the 2020 US election by disrupting the joint session of Congress assembled to count electoral votes that would formalize Biden's victory. This resulted in the US Capitol Building being placed into lockdown, with staff and law makers evacuated from the building while the rioters occupied the building for several hours, causing damage and vandalism to the inside of the building and assaulting law enforcement officers attempting to calm down the situation. This resulted in several injuries including to 138 officers as well as the suicide of 4 officers in the aftermath linked to the riots.
