The 31st Precinct is the Vice Squad in Manhattan. It was a former stomping ground of retired Detective Lennie Briscoe back during the seventies. More recently, a cloud was cast over it when it was discovered that one of the 31st's officers, Peter Ridley, had killed 18 prostitutes over his 30-year career. (SVU: "Hysteria")

The 31st faced some more scrutiny in 2005, when Officer Wes Myers murdered his wife and then attempted suicide. His actions were later determined to be caused by his taking an anti-malaria vaccine called Quinium. (SVU: "Goliath")

The 31st also houses the Manhattan Robbery Unit, and has one of the few Arabic-speaking officers employed by the NYPD. (L&O: "Ritual")
