Adam Stein is a gossip columnist for the New York Ledger. He became a person of interest when Detectives Ed Green and Nina Cassady were investigating the murder of a fellow detective named Nick Carvahal.
History[]
Stein published a slanderous column regarding the prosecution of the prime suspect, rapper Justin Smolka, and the coverage of his estranged wife Sky Sweet. Stein criticized EADA McCoy's family life in the article and, to her face, sexually harassed and hurled racist insults at ADA Rubirosa. The prosecution responded by taking him to court, as he argued they didn't know Smolka's motive and sued for him to give up his source.
The people won the lawsuit, but Stein refused still to divulge and spent weeks in prison as a consequence. He eventually cracked and revealed paparazzi photographer Gary Blanchard was hired by Smolka to take compromising pictures of Sky to use during their divorce. Smolka tried to steal them when Blanchard extorted Smolka and planned on selling them to Stein for a quick buck. Smolka killed Detective Carvahal, one of Blanchard's neighbors, when he was investigating noises from the burglary. (L&O: "Fame")
