Alan Hugh Dale is a New Zealand actor. As a child, Dale developed a love of theatre and also became a rugby player. After retiring from the sport he took on a number of professions to support his family, before deciding to become a professional actor at the age of 27. With work limited in New Zealand, Dale moved to Australia, where he played Dr. John Forrest in The Young Doctors from 1979 to 1982. He later appeared as Jim Robinson in Neighbours, a part he played from 1985 until 1993. He guest starred as Judge Joshua Koehler on the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Liberties".
Dale is perhaps best known for portraying ruthless real estate mogul Caleb Nichol during the first two seasons of the Fox Network drama The O.C., co-starring with Peter Gallagher, Mischa Barton, Michael Nouri, Logan Marshall-Green, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Tate Donovan. He also starred on Ugly Betty (with Tony Plana and Judith Light) and the 2017 version of Dynasty (with Michael Michele) and had a recurring role on Lost (with Henry Ian Cusick and Sonya Walger). Dale also appeared in an episode of Torchwood with Freema Agyeman.
Dale also had a recurring role as DHS Deputy Director and NCIS Director Tom Morrow on the police procedural drama NCIS.
