Alex Iliescu was a former member of the Romanian Communist Party, who is also a child abuser, serial killer, proxy killer, and con artist.
Background[]
Alex was from Romania and had a son called Leon. In secret, he was also a member of Nicolae Ceaușescu's secret police; as a member, he would assault, torture, and murder dozens of people deemed "enemies of the state". Alex regularly neglected his son by calling him a "mouse" and sending him to live with servants. Despite what he did to Leon, Leon would still adore his father and want to be like him. Leon begged to be brought in, but Alex didn't allow it and thus sent him to his brother Nicholas and his wife Karen.
When the secret police department was shut down after their leader's execution, Alex fled to New York and started working at Nicholas's furniture shop. At the store, he worked as a con artist, committing acts like identity theft, copying credit card numbers, and stealing their identities to take money from their accounts. While Leon would assist with the scam, Alex still never gave him attention. Eventually, Nicholas would find out about the scam and tell Karen and Leon that he would call the police on Alex. He hired his right-hand-man Tommy Zanescu to shoot his brother in the head, giving slight respect to his son for the first time in his life.
Securitate[]
Detectives Briscoe and Logan investigate Nicholas' death and arrest two drug addicts who took his valuables. They talk with Alex, whose business card was one of the stolen items, but Alex denies any assistance in his murder. Logan and Briscoe find out about the credit card scam ran by Alex and arrest Zanescu, who rats on Alex and tells the detectives that Alex ordered Nicholas' murder, this all being done for a reduced prison sentence. Alex is arrested and Executive Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone and Assistant District Attorney Paul Robinette charge him with proxy murder. Despite it being clear he ordered the murder; Alex's lawyer manages to get the case dropped on a technicality.
Alex returns to his apartment and gets drunk to celebrate. When Leon shows up to talk about moving in as a reward for his help. Alex no longer needs his son, laughs at Leon and demands him to get out. Leon threatens Alex with a knife to impress his father, but he laughs his threats aside and calls him a snitch, eventually being stabbed to death by Leon. Because of his death, Leon is forced to plead guilty to manslaughter in the first degree after his defense of insanity is declined.
