Amber Samonsky is a woman who suffered from an accident that led to her abusing her daughter, Rose.

History[]

Amber was struck by a bus months ago, causing her to suffer residual brain injuries. As a result, she developed Capgras delusion, a psychosis where she came to believe her daughter Rose was an imposter. Amber neglected and abused Rose to the point of starving her, later marrying a man named Jeff who lived around the same area as her. They were both mentally ill, squalid video game addicts and he abused Rose just as abhorrently by locking her in a cage.

One night, Rose became fed up with the abuse and made her escape to get candy from a convenience store, but along the way, she was attacked and raped by Erik Weber. Rose revealed her family circumstances to the SVU detectives, causing them to go visit Amber and Jeff. Amber and Jeff were completely absorbed by the game they were playing to the point that they were oblivious to the arrival of the detectives until they were interrupted and brought in for questioning.

In interrogation, Amber is confronted about her abuse but she says that Rose is an imposter and not her daughter. Dr. Huang is asked to consult and diagnoses Amber, revealing her records of her injuries. The detectives think if Amber hears her daughter's voice, she would recognize her. They have Rose speak through the intercom, which works at first and Amber voices her care for her daughter. However, things go awry when an ecstatic Rose rushed into the room to hug her mother. Amber sees her and angrily pushes her away before slapping her, saying she was tricked and Rose is not her daughter.

The detectives later told Rose that Amber would most likely be institutionalized to treat her condition and brain injuries, while Rose would be put into foster care. (SVU: "Bullseye")
