Andrew Raines is a U.S. ambassador and the father of both teenage rapist Tripp Raines and wedlock child Arturo Rivera.
History[]
Andrew, despite his marriage to his wife Kathleen and his high-ranking job, had an affair with his housekeeper Inez Rivera, conceiving Arturo with her from their sex around not long after Tripp was with Kathleen. Andrew swore to financially provide for the Riveras in exchange for Inez's silence, but Arturo heard sounds of the affair one time and became curious of who his father was. He subsequently took a paternity test from Andrew's toothbrush to confirm his heritage.
Arturo brought this to Andrew, hoping he would be happy but Andrew reacted lividly and threatened the Riveras with no longer financing them if they told. To cover his tracks, he subsequently brought them an apartment.
Arturo kept up a friendship with Tripp to keep close to him. That all changed when Tripp drugged and raped Arturo's crush Ella Mendez at his party. Andrew arrange for Tripp's flowers to keep Ella from testifying and encourage her to get an abortion, but the police thwarted both. Andrew forced Tripp to leave with him and Kathleen when Tripp bragged about raping Ella and having immunity against the justice system.
Tripp was later found beaten to death in Central Park, with Arturo being revealed as his killer. This led to Andrew's and Inez's affair coming out in Arturo's confession. Arturo reveals when Tripp failed to make Ella abort her baby, he slut-shamed her until she cried and shoved Arturo's face in the mud before walking off. Heartbroken and no longer seeing Tripp as family from his superiority complex, Arturo beat him to death with a rock.
Andrew felt guilty after Arturo revealed all he wanted was for his father to love him. To his further dismay, Kathleen became horrified at the news of the affair and told him to stay away from her, despite his pleas. Andrew was then left to stare at Arturo breaking down in the interrogation room and express remorse for his treatment.
Kathleen likely divorces from Andrew. It's unknown what happens to Andrew's position. (SVU: "Blood Brothers")
