Ann Dowd is an actress who has been in the films Marley & Me, Garden State, and Apt Pupil. She has had recurring roles in the shows Third Watch and The Education of Max Bickford. She has appeared in Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Trial By Jury, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Dowd was a series regular as Patti Levin on the HBO series The Leftovers (2014–2017; with Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Michael Gaston, Kevin Carroll, and Janel Moloney), for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. In 2017, she began playing Aunt Lydia on the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale (with Elisabeth Moss, Samira Wiley, Bradley Whitford, and Sam Jaeger), for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
She is married to actor Lawrence Arancio, who has guest-starred on Law & Order and SVU. They both appeared in the Law & Order episode "Compassion" (as a married couple) and the SVU episode "Lead".
