Ari Moldovan was a Sergeant with the New York City Police Department. Although he was assigned to the Bronx Special Victims Unit, he was actually a serial rapist who attacked several women all over New York by copying the rapists he was investigating such as Joey Nuccio and Danny Gonzalez.

History[]

After committing a rape in Inwood, Manhattan, the Manhattan Special Victims Unit teamed up with his precinct, with everyone unaware that Moldovan had committed the crime. During the case, both Moldovan and Barek clashed with Benson, Tutuola, and Garland over how the case was handled, with Barek defending Moldovan's actions during the case. Trying to cover his tracks, Moldovan framed a man named Danny Gonzalez for the rapes. When one of his victims couldn't identify Gonzalez as her rapist, Moldovan visited the victim at her house and told her that victims sometimes made mistakes.

After it was revealed that Moldovan was behind the attacks, he flew into a rage and held Rollins hostage at gunpoint before letting her go. He then attempted to shoot himself in the head in an act of suicide but couldn't bring himself to do so and surrendered to the police. He was then arrested, charged, and imprisoned for his actions as well as fired from the police force. (SVU: "Hunt, Trap, Rape, and Release")
