Dr. Audrey Shelton is a psychologist with a specialty in reproductive abuse whom Olivia Benson consults on the case of Ken Turner, who later ends up dead.
History[]
Shelton was inspired into her field by her mother's therapy work and her sister's physically abusive ex-boyfriend to turn to criminal psychology and counseling, never wanting her father's job in law enforcement despite remembering his work fondly as well. Reproductive abuse was one of her major fields, as it's highly difficult to prosecute and put in legislation against. She had her unethical moments, most notably severely bludgeoning a Buffalo citizen raping ten-year-old children. The D.A. never prosecuted her because even the newspaper called her a "local hero".
Benson attended one of her conferences and became much more educated, which is how she saw the signs in Ken Turner, whose baby was left out in front of a gym by neighbor Wade Fisk. When his affairs were found out and his wife, Dede Aston, got pregnant from a torn condom, Benson realized he poked a hole in it to deliberately inseminate her. Shelton's brought in to consult, where she goes into the felonious extents reproductive abusers can have. Unfortunately, Ken's never beaten or raped before, so no charges are filed on Ken.
What the Special Victims Unit and Shelton do instead is have all the mothers and children confront Ken, except for one mother and son, with the woman's mother coming and revealing she asphyxiated herself and her child in their car in the garage while she read him a bedtime story. Dede arranges for a separation and divorce, but Ken doesn't even deny the abuse he put women and children through, even saying he didn't have 20 kids; he had 47, in the USA and Europe, glorifying his reach despite carrying that self-romanticizing stance alone. Shelton voices her disgust about how he takes no responsibility for the damage he's done. However, Ken reveals that he loves all of his children in spite of what he has done.
When Shelton and the mothers and children all go to dinner together, Ken calls her and tries to seduce her to a "date" in his courtyard. At first, she was going to refuse but she snapped and agreed. Like the pedophile in Buffalo, she was eager to get vengeance, so she went to the Turner house and left the mothers to their bonding.
When Ken tries to allure her, she excuses herself to find a knife, after pretending to go to the bathroom. She finds a knife in hopes of castrating Ken to prevent more conceptions of kids. What she didn't realize is she found a WASP injection knife, a diving knife with compressed gas. When she tries to emasculate Ken, the mutilation she ends up stabbing him by accident and pressing the button, filling Ken with pressurized air and causing his stomach to explode, killing him almost instantly. Shelton was horrified by what she did and fled the scene with the knife in hand.
After Wade's cleared and Dede's alibi is supported by the other mothers, they reveal Shelton never coming back after the phone call. When Benson and Stabler go to the room she's staying in, she told them the door was open and they discover her holding the knife, saying she won't use it. While drinking wine, she reveals that she knew they would come because they are good cops. Shelton elaborates what happened in Buffalo and then confesses to the playout of Ken's murder, laughing in amusement over the mishap at the end. However, a part of her was remorseful about the carnage because she wanted him to be alive to be punished. She surrenders without a fight, but insists that she finish her wine before she's arrested, knowing they do not have wine in prison. She was later imprisoned for murder. (SVU: "Bang")
