- Johnny Ramirez: (mis-reading Munch's guest pass) "Defective Monk"?
- John Munch: That's "Detective Munch", with a "ch".
- Johnny Ramirez: Defective monk... that's like a fallen angel. That's what Brittany was...
- John Munch: (sigh) Yeah, I can see that.

Background information and notes[]
- This episode is based on the JonBenét Ramsey case. Another episode in the Law & Order franchise that was also inspired by this case is the Law & Order: Criminal Intent episode "Masquerade".
- This is the first part of a crossover episode with Homicide: Life on the Street which continued with the Season 6 episode "Baby, It's You (2)".
- Briscoe talks about how John Munch was a mediocre pool player and how he had slept with his ew-wife, Gwen Munch. The pool game and the revelation of the relationship came about it in the Homicide episode "For God and Country", the second part of the first Law & Order-Homicide two-part crossover. Briscoe also mentions how Munch helped investigate the subway bombing two years ago which was in the first episode of the crossover "Charm City".
- J.K. Simmons had appeared in the first two-part crossover with Homicide: Life on the Street as Colonel Alexander Rausch in the Homicide episode "For God and Country". He did not appear in the Law & Order episode of that crossover, "Charm City". This time, he appears as Emil Skoda in Law & Order but does not appear on Homicide.
- Richard Belzer also appeared in The X-Files episode "Unusual Suspects" as John Munch (in a non-canon appearance) the week this episode and the second part of the crossover aired, thereby setting a TV record by becoming the first person to play the same character on three different prime time series during the same week.
