The Republic of Bulgaria is an Southern European country.
As the Kingdom of Bulgaria, it signed up with the Axis powers during World War II. After the war, Bulgaria was a communist puppet regime until the Soviet Union's collapse in 1990. Bulgaria has since been a republic and is a member of the European Union (EU) and NATO.
