Cal Cutler (alias The Mattress Maestro) is a former mattress salesman and a conspirator to murder in the process of faking his death.

History[]

Cal hired numerous young, gorgeous, blond actresses to star in his commercials for Cal's Corral, his mattress business, all hired by his agent Maude Monaghan. Cal also had affairs with almost if not all of them, which pissed his wife Emily off. Cal would seduce and drop each woman after each tryst, angering many off to arrive at his home and, in one case, his studio for confrontations. Emily always called the cops, Susan Delzio being the most recurring officer at the scene. A blond woman as well, she fell in love with Cal and they started an affair, but they genuinely did want to be together and leave Emily behind. They were gathering Cal's things at his home when Emily arrived, Susa killing her in a rage. She posed Emily like Ned Bogden, an unidentified serial killer active back in those years.

Cal had sex with the most obsessed of the women, Rita Wills, then went for drinks at a bar with her. After having forced her to get an abortion, Cal ditched her, drove off drunk, and reconvened with Susan. They ran his car off a road and set it in fire with James Rogers, a murdered prisoner Susan released, inside. When Cal doused the flames with her gasoline, he was severely burned and scarred. Susan hid Call in her apartment for decades so they'd stay "together forever".

When Bogden was arrested and a blond hair at the scene turned out to be female, the detectives worked through the suspects. Susan was brought in to recount her calls to the house, while women Cal hired and has sex with were questioned. Rita especially seemed suspect, since her DNA was at the scene, but she had her period while in bed with Cal, providing her an explanation. When Rogers was identified, Susan was revealed to be the killer from tracking his release records. Being blond back then, the police put everything together and took her into interrogation. Susan was furious by the accusations, daring the police to tell her where Call is, and they brought him into the station as proof. She rushed over to him and fully confessed, before she was arrested and cried out to Cal as she was escorted away. It's unknown what penalties Cal faced, especially due to the condition of his health. (SVU: "Bedtime")
