Calvin Arliss is the son of drug addict Vivian Arliss and David Drecker. Detective Olivia Benson served as his guardian until Vivian asked that Calvin be given to his grandparents in Vermont.

Benson was appointed as Calvin's legal guardian after Vivian disappeared. He can be seen playing in her apartment and is impressed Benson was friends with an FBI Agent. However, her legal guardian rights were eventually terminated by Vivian through his paternal grandparents. (SVU: "Trophy", "Rescue")
Despite this, Benson still kept in contact with Calvin, since he came over to New York on Halloween to see her with his grandparents. When Benson was called in for a case, Calvin was upset but told her he understood that her job was important, and she thanked him for understanding. (SVU: "Missing Pieces")
