Carlton Campbell is the leader of the Moon Bay Crew, a surfer gang barring everyone else from the beaches near their swanky houses. The trio, also consisting of Logan Rudman and Patrick Scott, Scott being much poorer than the other two, resorted to genuine gang activities, such as graffiti with their signs, starting a website, and even violence, which left other surfers afraid enough to carry weapons for self-defense. Carlton's father Gray Campbell enabled Carlton by covering up his crimes. Gray paid off Peter Markham after the gang beat him, then Amy Reynolds after the trio gave her booze at a house party an Scott raped her reluctantly while Carlton and Rudman egged him on.
Trevor Knight, a surf icon and medical pot store owner, refused to be fazed by his surf board and car being vandalized, so the gang broke into his store and violently jumped him. They were bad enough to kill him, while the three were covered in scratches, cuts, and even bite marks from Trevor fighting back. His safe was emptied to paint it as a robbery, then the bloody money and the Crew's stained wetsuits were burned in the fireplace in Gray's study. When Scott was singled out for testimony, Carlton and Rudman were arrested, but the search warrants didn't cover the study at first.
When Amy being raped was found out, the search was expanded, with trace evidence being found in the fireplace. The preliminary hearing saw witnesses testifying to whether the trio qualified as a gang, which Gang Unit Detective Jorge Rivas concurred. Amy testified to the rape, and despite Gray trying to evade questions or responsibility, he was confronted with his payouts and the pompous mentality of the gang. When the judge ruled in favor of the statutes, Gray was force to take a deal of no jailtime to sell out the gang, or else Carlton would have it instead to sell out Gray.
Carlton plead guilty to murder two and was sentenced to fifteen years in state prison. (LA: "Harbor City")
