Defense Attorney Carolyn Rivers is the representative counsel of high school teacher and serial student rapist Jason Karr after Karr was castrated out of revenge and still brought to trial. Rivers had Karr take the stand for an emotional testimony, trying to portray the pain and rage of Karr's assailant, Evelyn Bundy, as plenty retribution.

Karr's wife Karen found a literary journal Bundy published a poem describing the violence of the rape she suffered, which was clinching proof of Karr's crimes and fraudulent testimony of "consent". After Rivers' last ditch effort in closing arguments, prosecutor Rafael Barba sarcastically "supported" vigilantism as a way of saying how worthless justice would be with a not guilty verdict. Karr was successfully convicted and imprisoned for aggravated rape. (SVU: "Contrapasso")
