Summary[]
When a Brooklyn prosecutor is found slain in her apartment, Maroun takes drastic action to convince an eyewitness to come forward. Riley struggles to adjust to the new lieutenant in charge.
Plot[]
When Brooklyn prosecutor Macy Harper is found strangled in her Upper East Side apartment, Detectives Vincent Riley and Jalen Shaw investigate. They discover Harper had been staying at a shelter for abused women and was planning to leave her fiance, wealthy fashion mogul Dylan Phipps. Evidence points to Phipps as the killer, but he has an alibi provided by his friend Kenneth Lane, a conservative news website owner. ADA Samantha Maroun, who knew the victim, pushes hard to prosecute Phipps. The detectives uncover that Lane had been paid to bury videos of Phipps abusing women in the past.
Just as the case seems to be falling into place, Phipps commits suicide in jail. Maroun, devastated by the lack of justice, convinces the team to pursue charges against Lane as an accomplice to the murder. They find an Uber driver who places Lane and Phipps at the crime scene together. However, when the driver recants his testimony, likely due to a bribe, the case against Lane crumbles. Despite Maroun's passionate objections, DA Nicholas Baxter decides to dismiss the charges, citing lack of evidence. The episode ends with Maroun struggling to accept that both Phipps and Lane will escape punishment for Harper's death. She nearly lost her job for trying to contact the uncooperative witness again if Nolan Price hadn't intervened.
