Charles Sutherland is the father of Rebecca Ramsey and the grandfather of all her daughters. He always disapproved of her husband, Evan Ramsey, but he outright hated Evan when one of the couple's daughters, Megan, accused Evan of sexual abuse. Evan was taken to trial, but then he was released and kicked out of the house.
When Evan was found shot dead, Charles was questioned, and he became a suspect when one of his prized guns, a Derringer which was used as the murder weapon, was missing from his cabinet. It was revealed the family's middle child, Jodie, killed Evan in a rage to avenge Megan, but she was soon after horrified over her father's murder. A plea deal for her testimony left her unable to be prosecuted, but it was revealed Megan's psychiatrist, Dr. Wharton, was liable for encouraging false memories in Megan's mind that led her to accuse Evan, thus setting off the chain of events and warranting Wharton's arrest.
