Chet Burton is an iconic Texas lawyer and the defense counsel for Nicky Guzman over the murder of José Urbano. His legal strategies were slick, as he’d go between defenses, conduct the trial how the law could benefit his clients, and cast reasonable doubt when all else failed.
Burton first argued Guzman was Puerto Rican, and his race made the murder a cultural issue, but then he moved the jury by saying he shot Urbano for raping his girlfriend’s sister. This successfully secured Guzman’s acquittal. (L&O: “The Secret Sharers”)
