Summary[]

A young man who apparently crashed a wedding is found beaten to death and his face mutilated in the venue's closet. After discovering he was a con artist and street kid, the trail soon leads to his partner in crime, Andrew, who also happens to be friends with Fin's son. However, it turns out Andrew has problems far beyond being a suspect in his friend's murder.

Plot[]

A wedding is being held at a hotel, as a hotel employee spots an attractive young woman named Juanita sitting by herself, claiming he's had his eye on her for a while. Juanita tries to rebuff him, but the man is not bothered and suggests they go somewhere private. She asks him does he really think she'll go along with it. Soon after, they are seen making out in a kitchen closet but before things can heat up, Juanita trips and the employee turns on the light to find a dead man whose face has been heavily damaged, leading to the couple screaming.

A young girl comes down to the precinct to speak with Cragen. She reveals that she is Mallory Sidwell, the alleged victim of Andrew. Cragen tells her they just arrested him, so she doesn't have to worry but she says she is here to tell the truth about Hingham, who is really her boyfriend and her own devastation that someone lied on him.

Andrew is released on bail but not by his mother, but Dr. Stanton. Fin and Huang find Andrew spiraling from the drugs and hear a baby crying.

Fin and Huang relay this news to the others and theorize Stanton is abusing Andrew and they may have a child together.

Huang and Fin interrogate Stanton while Benson interrogates Andrew who reveals his time with Stanton but did not out her, Detective Olivia Benson informed him about how Stanton gave a false rape accusation on him to keep him from his girlfriend, the alleged "victim". At the same time, Huang and Fin get Stanton to admit she was with Andrew and she believes they are in love but she also reveals he does have his issues while they are not convinced and tell her once the DNA test confirms that Andrew is the father of her child she is going to prison. Meanwhile, a distraught Andrew reveals how he freaked out when Stanton told him about her pregnancy and how that led to him following behind and meeting Mallory and after Benson tells him that Stan was trying to separate them does he informed the detectives of how Fran abused him and her pregnancy, which led to her being arrested.

In the end, Andrew was fully exonerated and Stanton was convicted and imprisoned, with Andrew being given custody of his son and being reunited with Mallory and his mother. At Stanton's sentence, he heard her final statement that didn't directly admit her guilt and cried after she said she would wait for him.

Quotes[]

Juanita: Idrina may be a total Bridezilla, but I can't believe she'd kill one of her guests.
Benson: Maybe he gave her the wrong china pattern.

Cragen: [to statutory rapist] I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Dr. Huang: Lots of divorces start at drunken wedding receptions.

Cragen: [to Huang] Doc, talk to your colleagues at Bellevue. Find out how a ward of patients on lockdown managed to fly the cuckoo's nest.

Dr. Warner: Got a hit on Jack's prints. Popped for identity theft last year. Passed himself off as Donald Trump's son.
Munch: Quite the entrepreneur. Too bad he's dead. Donald might have adopted him.

Ruben Morales: Last time I did this I got the thief sitting right in front of the computer he stole.

Tutuola: Come on, man. Answer your e-mail. Have a Twitter addiction.

Tutuola: Are you crazy?
Ken Randall: No, are you? What the hell?
Tutuola: You looked me dead in the eyes this morning and told me you hadn't seen Andrew in days.
Ken Randall: I didn't lie. I said Andrew hadn't been to the shelter in days.
Tutuola: This is Andrew's computer. He was here in your home. The new home that you didn't bother to tell me about.
Ken Randall: I moved in with my boyfriend.
Tutuola: What, are you banging this kid?
Ken Randall: What?
Tutuola: He's a minor. If you've crossed some sort of line, please tell me. I don't want to have to arrest my own damn son.
Ken Randall: That's what you think. I'm gay, so I must be a sexual predator. Why not just ask me if I recruit little boys and convert them? Andrew is straight.
Tutuola: Yeah, right. His best friend is a gay hustler.
Ken Randall: I know this may be hard for you to comprehend, but straight men do have gay male friends.

Ken Randall: I found Andrew waiting on the stoop when I got home. Someone beat him up. He was really upset. I brought him upstairs.
Tutuola: How did he know where you live?
Ken Randall: He's in a group I have over once a week for counseling.
Tutuola: What, you have street kids in your new apartment? They'll kill you for one of your damn speakers.

Benson: An underage patient moving in with their shrink? That can't be right.
Huang: There is a danger of transference activating sexual fantasies even in an office setting.
Tutuola: It's the middle of the day and they're both practically naked. She's banging him.
Cragen: Well, that's a serious accusation. Unfortunately, Andrew's not the one making it.
Tutuola: Captain, he's a kid and she's kind of hot. Plus, she got him whacked-out on drugs.
Benson: Keeping him disoriented, so he's easy to manipulate.
Tutuola: This may sound nuts, but we heard a baby crying. Now I'm wondering who the baby's daddy is.
Cragen: She's been seeing Andrew how long?
Huang: Since he was 12, around the onset of puberty.
Benson: We got to get him out of there.
Cragen: Not without solid grounds.
Benson: Would we be even having this conversation if Stanton was a man and Andrew was a 16-year-old girl?
Huang: Maybe we can bring her in on something else. We talked to Andrew before she started medicating him again. He was upset but lucid—no delusions, no hallucinations. A schizophrenic off his meds for six months would likely have decompensated.
Benson: You're saying that he's not schizophrenic? She misdiagnosed him?
Tutuola: Maybe even on purpose.
Huang: It would have allowed her to commit him, and given her complete authority over him.
Cragen: Subpoena Andrew's medical records.

Benson: [telling Andrew Hingham the truth about Stanton] You are not the sick one here. She is.

Dr. Hang: When the paternity test we've ordered comes back proving that Andrew is the father of your child, you're going to jail for statutory rape.
Dr. Stanton: It wasn't rape! We love each other!
Dr. Huang: You took advantage of a child.
Dr. Stanton: No! You don't understand! Andrew is a man. He is my soul mate!

Stanton's Allocution: I never meant to hurt you, Andrew. Everything that I did, I did out of love. When I first met you, you were a-a scared little boy. And I wanted to protect you and heal you, but I fell in love with you. And, um... I tried to deny my feelings, but...they were too strong. And I know you felt it too. The first time that we were together was the happiest moment of my life. I know that I am guilty of things many people can't understand, but I want you to know that I am sorry if I ever hurt you. And I hope you can forgive me. I will wait for you, Andrew.

Judge Lois Preston: [to Dr. Stanton about Andrew] You have abused your professional relationship with this boy in the most contemptible way. If I could, I would put you away for life.

Background information and notes[]

  • Based in part on the case of Mary Kay Letourneau.
  • Andrew's psychiatrist at Bellevue said a fellow patient, who later turned out to be a con artist faking a mental illness, convinced Andrew and other patients to trade medications. When someone is admitted to a psychiatric facility, or any hospital for that matter, they are not allowed to administer their own medication for obvious safety and liability reasons. Medication is always administered by a physician or a nurse and they always insure that the patient swallows their pills.
  • When Fin receives an envelope from the woman who moved into Ken Randall's old apartment, the address reads 110 Central Park North. All address numbers along Central Park North are odd numbers (North side of CPN). Address number 110, an even number, would be on the south side which is Central Park side.
  • In addition to the four counts of rape in the second degree Dr. Stanton should have also been charged with: Facilitating a sex offense with a controlled substance, it is a class D felony and would have added an additional 2-7 years to her sentence. It was revealed that she was drugging Andrew with anti-psychotics and sedatives in order to make him complaint enough to continue having sex with him. To be charged with facilitating a sex offense with a controlled substance the drug used does not specifically have to be a controlled substance, but also any substance that requires a prescription. She was using a combination of Olanzapine and Clonazepam to keep Andrew compliant and appearing to be schizophrenic. Olanzapine (Zyprexa) is an atypical anti-psychotic primarily used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and while it is not a controlled substance it is only available by prescription; Clonazepam (Klonopin) is a longer acting tranquilizer of the benzodiazepine class, it is primarily used to treat seizures and severe panic attacks, it is a prescription-only medication and a schedule IV controlled substance.
