In 1959, the military regime was overthrown by Fidel Castro. A communist dictatorship was established its place. The Cuban government's authoritarianism, lead by Fidel and his brother Raul Castro, causes many Cubans to flee the island to the United States, mostly landing in Miami, Florida.
