Background information and notes

  • Title: D-Girl. The "D" stands for "development." In the world of filmmaking, a development girl is someone who occupies a low rung on the power ladder. Her job would be to perform low-level tasks like reading scripts.
  • Guest stars Lauren Graham and Scott Cohen reunited years later on Gilmore Girls. Graham was the star of the long-running series, and Cohen had a recurring role in seasons 1 & 2 as her daughter's teacher - who later became her ultimately jilted fiance.
  • This episode (along with "Turnaround " and "Showtime") is part of a trilogy which has strongly been ripped from the headline of the notorious, controversial and highly publicized O.J. Simpson murder case. Locations, characters and other aspects loosely resembles those which came to denote the affair. Recurring and main cast members whom have been set to resemble figures of the real case include:
    • Eddie Newman: based off of O.J. Simpson.
    • Heidi Ellison: based off of Nicole Brown Simpson.
    • Stu Miller: based off of Mark Furhman.
    • Neil Gorton: based off of Robert Shapiro.
    • Defense attorney Joyner: based off of Johnnie Cochran Jr.
    • EADA Jack McCoy: his situation resembles that of prosecutor Christopher Darden. Both took the risk of letting the defendants interact with a piece of evidence, which eventually proved crucial to the trial.
    • ADA Jamies Ross: her situation resembles that of prosecutor Marcia Clark, whom was also coping with her children's custody cause during the trial.
    • Also, the attempts of the defense team (very similar to the so-called "dream team") at diverting the focus of the trial, by suggesting theories regarding police placing evidence and other conspiracies which sought to frame their client, is reminiscent of the strategy employed by the real life defense team, which eventually brought to Simpson's acquittal.
