Dana Silva is the mother of Nicole Shoemaker, who she kidnapped and fled to Brazil in order to evade her first husband, Dr. Phillip Shoemaker, and stay in Brazil with her second husband, Oscar Silva.

Dana had an arrest warrant out on her when she avoids the nasty divorce in court, so she married Oscar to stay in Brazil and avoid extradition. When Oscar attended a global warming exposition as a denialist, he blackmailed an opponent, Dr. Everett Brown, for money for the custody battle when Brown’s data was revealed to be fraudulent. Phillip poisoned Oscar at the event with Ritalin, as he had an aneurysm and high blood pressure that led to a hemorrhage from the drug. Dana came back with t Nicole and tried to retrieve Oscar, but she was arrested on the outstanding arrest warrant for her contempt of court.
With the divorce and custody resuming, Dana was released on an ankle monitor, Phillip was also arrested, and Dana’s parents Nelson and Sharon Lehman were granted temporary custody of Nicole. Dana was blamed when Nicole disappeared and a floating life raft was out at sea, presumably with Nicole in it, while Dana was practicing yoga. It was revealed the Lehman drugged Nicole with sleeping pills, hid her in the boat house, and set the life raft out empty to paint Dana as a bad mother, as they sided with Phillip and colluded with him and the poisoning scheme all for a big con.
Nelson and Phillip pleaded guilty to their crimes, and Dana’s legal status was left unknown. (L&O: “Brazil”)
