Debbie Mason is the conspirator in the murder of her mother Joan Moore. She met Dr. Richard Shipman at a medical conference and conspired to slowly poison her mother with MPTP once Shipman was her doctor, so her inheritance could fund her publishing business. Debbie was horrified by the effects and wanted to stop, but Shipman double-crossed her with a more lethal MPTP pill.

Joan’s declining state resulted her insisting her second husband David Moore euthanize her with insulin. David was at first a suspect, but Debbie’s inheritance brought her guilt into question. She confessed, and Shipman was also taken to trial since he willingly endangered Joan on his own accord. The prosecution pushed for Debbie to sign off on Joan getting a dose of L-DOPA in an attempt to wake her, which Shipman knew was dangerous. He rushed to allocate and take a plea to stop the procedure.

It was too late, as once the warrant was set in stone and the L-DOPA was administered, Joan didn’t recover and instead died from the cocktail of drugs in her system. Debbie took a manslaughter plea for a reduced sentence. (L&O: “Stiff”)
