Debbie Shields is a doctor who was raped by Brett Kincaid, after he mistook her for her partner, Ann Jackson.

Shields was attacked in her apartment by a masked assailant and taken to the bedroom, where she was tied and gagged with duct tape. Kincaid raped her until Ann returned home but was attacked by the man and was stomped on by him before he fled the home. Two children peeping in from the building across the street realized the situation and called the police.
Dr. Shields was taken to the hospital, where she refused the rape kit to attend to Ann, who was in a coma from the violent assault. However, she reported the rapist saying he was "curing" her of a vacation spot Ann went to when she was a child, revealing she was the true target. It was here she met her partner's estranged father Cap who was notified of the attack and both lamented how this was a sad situation to meet. Cap also allowed Shields to determine Ann's fate should her state worsen.
Much later, Cap's business colleague Brett Kincaid was identified as the assailant when Cap, who always feared he got drunk and raped her on that island, remembered he told Kincaid his account of that night. It was really revealed Cap had sex with Ann's first love, which broke her heart and left her estranged. Kincaid was arrested in the middle of another attempted rape while taking one of Cap's patients hostage. Both Shields and Cap stayed by Ann's bedside when she woke up briefly at one point during the investigation, but sadly eventually died in the emergency room.
