Del Broadleaf is a pro surfer who was in competition with Trevor Knight shortly before Trevor was murdered in his store before his safe was robbed. Trevor's partner, Joey Fatu, tried to harass Del out of the competition for publicity so Trevor could make a comeback in a new tour, but Del wouldn't budge.
Del was questioned after Fatu was arrested for attacking Trevor's store employee and ransacking his home, and Del actually led the police to the real killers: a gang known as the Moon Bay Crew, a trio of pretentious, spoiled teens that vandalized Trevor's property to protect beaches near their homes, then murdered him in a fight when he wouldn't stand down.
