Delia Hackman was the wife of Ty Hackman, whom she murdered.
History[]
After a domestic dispute with Ty, Delia desperately wanted to be free from Ty and started threatening police officers by hitting their cars. Delia was then approached by Amanda Rollins who brought her into the precinct where she told them that Delia was a victim of domestic violence. After new evidence proved that Delia was raped by Ty in the past, Rollins brought this new evidence to the precinct where Benson told Velasco and Tutuola to arrest Ty.
Ty was given an order of protection against Delia but violated this order of protection when he went to her home to fix her TV. Ty was arrested by the detectives at the scene where Delia told Benson and Rollins that she called Ty. At the precinct, Delia told Benson and Rollins that Ty questioned her and she thought he was threatening her. After Ty was placed under house arrest, Delia went to Ty's residence because he had her phone charger.
Ty then sexually harassed Delia before Delia felt threatened by Ty and stabbed him in the back with a kitchen knife. Delia left Ty's dead body on the floor while she waited for her phone to charge and then called Rollins. Delia was arrested by Benson and Rollins at the scene and taken into the precinct. Delia told the detectives the entire story about what happened the night that Ty was murdered.
Benson and Rollins both felt that Delia's attorney was not doing enough for her. Benson went through a list of attorneys who would want to handle this case before Rollins mentioned that they should call Rafael Barba. When Rollins called Barba, Barba agreed to defend Delia in court which Benson thanked Barba for, despite Benson was not talking to him after the Richard Wheatley trial.
Barba did his best to defend Delia in court and showed great amounts of support for Delia throughout the trial. When Delia had a breakdown on the stand, Barba escorted Delia out of the courtroom showing that he cared for her. Dr. Emily Sopher then testified that Delia suffered from CTE, a type of brain damage that comes head trauma, like in domestic violence. Barba negotiated with Lorraine Maxwell to plead Delia down to misdemeanor assault, which spared her jail time and fines. (SVU: "A Final Call at Forlini's Bar")
