Denise Bullock is the ex-wife of Sergeant Ayanna Bell. Prior to their divorce, she loved Ayanna dearly and had initial concerns about Stabler and his mental health affecting his career as a detective when he joined the Organized Crime Control Bureau. Both her and Bell are mothers to a son, Jack, with Bullock being the birthing parent.

Denise, Damon and Karen went public with the lawsuit against the NYPD which was filed by Denise after Damon was brutally assaulted during a police chase by cops. (OC: "Everybody Takes a Beating Sometime")
Denise announced to Bell and Derrick that she was offered a job by Kilbride at his old firm. Bell became confused as to why Denise didn't tell her about the job offer. After meeting with Derrick, Bell told Denise not to take the job because their son is still too young. Denise became hurt that Bell didn't support her dream job. (OC: "Can't Knock The Hustle")
Following the arrest of Leon Kilbride, Denise became furious with Bell despite the charges and told her that she hoped she was happy. When Bell comes home, she finds a note from Denise saying that their relationship is not working out, that she has left and she has taken Jack with her for the time being, which devastates Bell. (OC: "Friend Or Foe")
Denise and Bell eventually divorced following Kilbride's imprisonment. Denise told Bell that she had a job as a wife and a mother but she abandoned that when she arrested Kilbride but stated that she couldn't believe that they were divorced. Despite Bell's pleas for Denise to change her mind and reconsider, Denise refused to change her mind and told Bell that the divorce was happening before returning to work, leaving Bell heartbroken.
