Dwight Talcott is the prime suspect in the assault and attempted rape of Catherine Harrison.
When he was six years old, Dwight and his mother Lorna and him went door to door for a registration drive. During the drive, a van pulled up next to them and three members of the Ku Klux Klan, including Grant Harrison, pulled them inside. They forced Dwight to watch them brutalize and gang-rape his mother while holding a gun to his head. When questioned, Grant and his friends called Lorna a prostitute and they were never charged. As he grew up, Dwight became a drug addict and committed theft in order to feed his habit. Years later, Dwight got a job delivering fresh vegetables to a school. After having nightmares about his mother's rape, Dwight hired a private investigator to track down the rapists and found out that Grant was the only one who was still alive. He also learned that Grant had a granddaughter named Catherine, who worked as a teacher at the same school he delivered vegetables to.
Dwight eventually decided to rape Catherine as revenge against Grant. He broke into Catherine's room and attempted to rape her, but he ultimately could not bring himself to do so and left. Later, when Catherine identifies him as her assailant, he is arrested while telling his mother he won't be home for supper. During interrogation, he asks for an attorney and his cousin, Los Angeles prosecutor Jonah Dekker, arrives to represent him. In court, after hearing Catherine tell the court he raped her, Dekker uses the fact that she first identified Kevin Wright as her rapist to discredit her statement, which eventually causes Grant to have an outburst in the courtroom.
When Lorna's gang-rape is exposed, Casey Novak offers him 20 years to life for rape; he initially declines, but later changes his mind so his mother would not have to testify and relive the rape. At court, when his mother tells him to be truthful, he tells the court how he was going to rape Catherine but couldn't, then asks to be sentenced for breaking and entering. When Catherine is arrested for perjury and filing a false police report. she and Dwight pass each other in the hallway, where they apologize to each other. Dekker and Novak work out a deal in which Dwight would serve 15 years in prison for the breaking and entering charge.
