Earl Gilmore (alias Earl Miller) is a convicted robber who previously served seven years for an armed robbery charge.
In prison, Gilmore was abused by his cellmate, which was implied to be as far as sexual battery. One time he had to go to the infirmary for a week with fourteen stitches. Eventually, he started getting violent, smuggling and abusing steroids, which increased his violence and strength. It was said by guard Gary wheeler, who went to his cell multiple times, that he raped and assault many prisoners on his block. which got him multiple complaints.
When Gilmore raped and shot Maggie Sandomir, her colleague and friend diagnosed with schizophrenia, Mark Nash, had a grief-stricken breakdown and attacked Gilmore in a rage, stabbing him in his upper body and genitals before leaving him barely alive in a trash can.
Nash, who refused psychiatric drugs and coped with his psychotic symptoms, was the prime suspect and forced on his meds. But Gilmore's real name was found out not long after he woke up and lied to the detectives, leading to his charges of rape and murder. Nash committed suicide when his lack of hallucinations drove him toward depression. (SVU: "Noncompliance")
