Edward "Eddie" Newman was a famed Hollywood movie director and murderer. He worked for Mattawin Studios along with his ex-wife, Heidi Ellison, who he fatally stabbed during an argument.
History[]
Newman worked for Mattawin Studios and was known to have drug abuse problems, as well as various medical issues including depression. He took numerous medications to deal with them. While married to Heidi Hellison, herself a movie producer working for Mattawin, Newman was known to have repeatedly beat her, to the point that she once called the police. Newman managed, however, to convince an NYPD detective, Stu Miller, to persuade Heidi to not denounce him, in exchange for a consulting role in one of his films. Eventually, they divorced, retaining the same psychoanalyst, Dan Duval.
Newman was well known as a director of award-winning films, such as Crooked Street, which he said being proud of. However, the studios kept asking him to work on child-oriented films instead. He felt that Heidi was holding back his career out of spite, consequently developing a strong grudge against her. He eventually snapped during an argument they had at Heidi's New York City apartment. He stabbed her with an ornamental Philippine dagger and then dismembered her body parts, in order to cover up his crime. After disposing of the severed head and the murder weapon, he embarked on fellow movie director Steven Berger's private jet, which brought him back to Los Angeles.
Newman was tried and convicted of murder in the first degree and sentenced to death after a lengthy extradition process and trial, during which he was represented by a team of attorneys led by Jamie Ross' ex-husband, Neil Gorton. (L&O: "D-Girl", "Turnaround", "Showtime")
