Edgar Goodwin is a defense attorney who defended Reverend Delman Chase when he was arrested on statutory rape and embezzlement charges.

History[]

Goodwin first met Captain Benson at Deputy Chief Garland's dinner party, where he said he was pleased he was to meet her and that Garland had told him all about her. However, when Chase was arrested, he defended Chase in court, and his attitude towards Benson and the Special Victims Unit changed.

When several girls testified against Chase in front of a grand jury, Goodwin was distressed when Carisi showed him and Chase the evidence against them. He was also distraught by Chase admitting to some of the sexual abuse and did his best to keep him quiet.

After Chase was found guilty on the charges, Goodwin told him that he can no longer be his lawyer going forward and recommended a new lawyer. At the SVU precinct, Goodwin met Benson and said that he felt awful about representing Chase, showing great remorse and he apologized for his behavior. He also informed her that he was no longer representing Chase before telling her that they wished they had met under better circumstances, to which Benson agreed before shaking her hand. (SVU: "Garland's Baptism By Fire")
