Edie Nelson is the wife of space program commander Luke Nelson, who found out that Luke was having an affair with Lieutenant Jessica Hart.

As a result, she arranged for Hart's murder but covered her tracks to keep from being found out in her personal role. She recruited Lieutenant Sandy Delgado, who had a troubling history and evaluation in the program, by sending her flowers and gifts in Nelson's name to allege an "attraction" between the two. One of the gifts, perfume, was laced with steroids, which took affect on Delgado over time and made her more aggressive.
When Delgado realized the actual affair, she flew into a rage, tracked Hart to her hotel room, and stabbed her to death with Delgado's own diver's knife. Delgado was tracked, arrested, and gave a full confession. Edie feigned horror over the shame of Luke's affair, but the detectives confronted her later and goaded her with the shame and betrayal she suffered from finding out herself. With enough prodding and insults, she fully admitted in front of Luke of setting up the murder and was arrested. She was found guilty of murder facilitation in the first degree and imprisoned.
