Elaine Blanchard is the wife of university lab director Dr. Charles Blanchard, who cheated on her with numerous women. Blanchard's latest mistress, Jeannine Wilson, was infected by SARS, purportedly by him on purpose; this killed their son Tanner due to his rheumatoid arthritis leaving him less immune. A SARS outbreak was also triggered, while lab tech Anna Hopkins was killed in a carjacking when she was ordered to dispose of the virus sample.
Elaine was unphased by Blanchard's infidelity, saying that she didn't operate through petty grievances and reserved her emotions for worse disasters to their marriage. She appeared shaken from the crimes and dropped her lie about Blanchard's alibi at trial, but she then reneged on her words to confuse the jury. She later claimed that she did not care about Blanchard's wrongdoings and figured the jury would believe her for acting like another spiteful, scorned wife.
Blanchard was acquitted, and the couple took each other's hands and left the courtroom. (L&O: "Patient Zero”)
