On May 4, 2001, Bakley was found murdered in her car outside a restaurant where he had just had dinner with her husband, famed actor Robert Blake. Blake was arrested and tried for the crime and for soliciting it, but was found not guilty on March 16, 2005. Later that same year, he was found liable for Bakley's wrongful death in a civil trial.
