A mass murder of police officers causes problems.

Plot[]

Lieutenant Anita Van Buren is told by her doctor Valerie Knight (Deirdre O'Connell) that she came off her radiation just fine and her hemoglobin levels are up. She's set to go back to her doctor in three months to see if the tumor has shrunk. Meanwhile, Detectives Lupo and Bernard are called to a scene where four police officers were shot and killed at a local pizzeria. With a room full of witnesses they have a small description of the culprit, but that's all. The case becomes even more confusing when they discover that the police officers may have known the shooter. The investigation quickly leads them to a drug cartel, a jealous husband, and a penitent judge who are all linked together. Tensions rise from both the homicide units, the DA's office, and even to the U.S. Attorney.

Quotes[]

I've witnessed one execution. I don't have a need to see another.

–Jack McCoy

McCoy: It was her recommendation that freed him.
Cutter: Five years ago. Now she's running for Senate. She's trying to make up for that by killing him.
McCoy: Politics and the death penalty...my favorite combination.
Oh, so that's what you're worried about? Okay. Well, what about me? If I'm not ever around, are you going to turn me into a retroactive saint? Go through my office and clean out my nasty habits? Tell the world how sweet I was all the time? Look, she was a cop. She wanted to be a detective. She made some mistakes. Honest, good-faith mistakes, but she made some mistakes. Get over it.

–Anita Van Buren about the defense's case

A.D.A. Michael Cutter: Would you please read this description of your final meeting with Officer Ramos and her partner at the bar in Queens? Right there.
Calvin Stokes: "S complained of low pay. Demanded bonus, $1,000," that's not true!
Cutter: Keep reading.
Stokes: "We rejected. S got angry-", there oughta be stuff in there with threats about my mother!
Cutter: There is, from weeks before, but there is no mention of it near the time of the shooting. But that last night, in the bar? "S got angry, said we were cheating him, said he'd us." It was all about money! Wasn't it?
Cutter: No, they left stuff out!
Cutter: It wasn't about your mother that night, it was about getting YOU MORE MONEY to buy DRUGS!
Stokes: Drugs had nothing to DO WITH IT! I wa-I was taking BIG CHANCES for them!
Cutter: Right, so you wanted to be paid!
Stokes: I wanted what was fair! I wanted what I was earning! They thought they could push me around like I was NOBODY!
Cutter: "S got angry, said we were cheating him, said he'd show us", and that's exactly what you did.
