Gina Alexis Rodriguez is an American actress who guest-starred on Law & Order in the episodes "Enemy" as Yolanda and "Illegal" as Inez Soriano.
She is best known for her leading role as Jane Villanueva in The CW satirical romantic dramedy series Jane the Virgin (2014–2019) with Andrea Navedo, Alison Fernandez and Rita Moreno, for which she received a Golden Globe Award in 2015.
Born and raised in Chicago, Rodriguez began her career in 2003 in theater productions and made her screen debut in an episode of the police procedural drama series Law & Order. Her breakthrough came in 2012, in the independent musical-drama film Filly Brown. She has gone on to star in such films as Deepwater Horizon (2016), Ferdinand (2017), Annihilation (2018), Miss Bala (2019), Someone Great (2019) and Scoob! (2020; with Iain Armitage and Amanda Seyfried). She also voices the titular character of the Netflix animated action-adventure series Carmen Sandiego, which reunites her with her Jane the Virgin co-star, Rita Moreno. As well as this, she also stars in the Netflix animated adult comedy series Big Mouth as Gina Alvarez.
She currently stars and executive produces the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President (with Selenis Leyva and Michael Weaver) as the adult Elena Cañero-Reed, the President of the United States.
Rodriguez is currently married to actor, model, and MMA fighter Joe LoCicero, whom she met on the set of Jane the Virgin, since May 4, 2019.
