Gloria Foster was an American actress who played Satima Tate in the Law & Order episodes "Conspiracy" and "Entrapment".
Foster is best known for her role as The Oracle in the films The Matrix (with Marcus Chong) and The Matrix Reloaded (with Harold Perrineau). She was married to actor Clarence Williams III (who portrayed Lateef Miller in the Law & Order season 11 episode "Burn, Baby, Burn") from 1967 to 1984.
Foster died on September 29, 2001, at age 67, during filming The Matrix Reloaded and was thus unable to portray her role in the third film. As a result, Mary Alice replaced her in The Matrix Revolutions and Enter the Matrix. The cause of her death was diabetes. A memorial was held at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn on October 15, 2001.
