Grace Avery is the mother of Cate Avery, whom she had from artificial insemination and who wanted to meet her birth father, Colin Barnes. When another man, Sean Albert, found her and lied about being her father, Cate fought with Grace and Grace fell and hit her head in trying to chase after Cate.
Cate was cleared as an assault suspect, but she revealed even more shockingly she was seduced and raped by Albert after they danced to his favorite song in a reserved hotel room. He was eventually tracked and arrested. (SVU: "Father Dearest")
