Haley Sadler is a teenager who ran away with her music teacher, lover, and biological father James Turner.

Haley was conceived from an affair that her mother had with James Turner. Anna never told her husband that Haley was not his child. Growing up, she was never close to her stepfather Chris, who she believed was her real father.
Haley found kindred spirit in her teacher Turner who knew about music and was there for her. Soon their mentor and student relationship grew into a romantic relationship. The two often fooled around in the music room of his house, with his wife noting they would stay for hours, and he kept provocative pictures of her. They then concocted a scheme to make everyone believe Haley was dead so they could continue their relationship in peace.

In 2018, on a field trip to New York, Haley snuck out to a club with a friend and made plans to be with Turner. She was accosted by a butcher Vincent Drago who offered to hang out and she agreed. Haley had chose to incriminate Drago because he looked like a criminal, as luck would have it, he had a violent record. Discovering her age, Drago opted not to sleep with her, and the pair got drunk. After Drago left her alone, she cut herself and smeared blood in his car and apartment to make it look like she was dead before she left the area.
She went missing after running away with James, who hid her in the home of his acquaintance, and both made plans to start a new life elsewhere. As Special Victims Unit investigated, Haley was presumed to be deceased and Drago became the suspect in her alleged murder.
However, the SVU detectives located Haley and James in a hidden location James borrowed from a friend. They walked in on them sleeping together and both were escorted to the Special Victims Unit precinct. It is here where Haley's mother Anna angrily told James that Haley was his biological daughter, news that surprised Haley before Turner was taken away. Instead of being upset or disgusted, Haley was amazed, stating that she had a feeling Chris wasn't her real father as the two had nothing in common whereas James and Haley did.
