Mrs. Hallander is the mother of missing teen Heather Hallander, who conspired with her daughter Nikki to hide Heather's murder.

Nikki was caught by Heather doing drugs, leading Nikki to accidentally push Heather down a chimney and kill her when they fought. Her mother found out and, despite being horrified, didn't want to lose her daughter and kept the secret for years, telling the family Heather ran away, never to be found again. The rest of the family would always be mad at Nikki and blame her for Heather's disappearance, never knowing how guilty she actually was and felt for years.
When a woman arrived at their door a year later claiming to be Heather, the Hallanders' mother and Nikki knew she wasn't Heather, but Mrs. Hallander stayed silent. Nikki was most volatile, threatening the woman to leave and saying she'd be in danger if she didn't. The family eventually pressed charges on the woman briefly when she was revealed to be an impostor. Her real name is Kristen Vucelik, and she ran and took on Heather's identity to escape her father Carl Vucelik, who held her captive and raped her for years after she was kidnapped from her mother, Marcie.
The detectives confronted the family when they suspected them, and Mrs. Hallander confessed to her and Nikki's crimes. Nikki was stopped when she was near killing Kristen, then near committing suicide, so she could be safely arrested. It's unknown what fate befell Mrs. Hallander as an accessory to murder.
