Plot[]
A young woman, Hailey, shows up at a hospital emergency room beaten and with her head shaved. Despite signs of sexual assault, she demands only a morning-after pill and refuses a rape kit and treatment. Accosted on the street by Detective Olivia Benson, but refuses to say anything. Benson offers to at least drive her home, but Hailey wants nothing to do with her.
A couple of hours later, Olivia goes by her apartment to check up on her. She's upset because Olivia was able to find her and knows her name. After being yelled at by a neighbor, Hailey lets Liv in, where she sees that Hailey is drawing a bath. Olivia tries to convince her not to bathe and to still get a rape kit, but Hailey tells her that she just wants to soak in the tub and to leave her alone. Hailey locks herself in the bathroom, climbs into the tub, and starts sobbing. Olivia looks around and finds the clothes that Hailey was wearing after opening her bedroom door. She takes the girls underwear and puts it in an evidence bag. Olivia delivers the bag to Medical examiner Melinda Warner. Olivia tells her to put a rush on it, not explaining the details of how she got them.
Olivia tries to find out who assaulted Hailey by talking to a friend of hers at the cooperative where she works and her boyfriend at his place of work. When Hailey goes missing, Benson encounters Agent Dana Lewis and discovers the victim might have been targeted due to her status as an FBI informant and connections with the Earth Defenders Group. Dana reveals her vital role in a sting operation against an eco-terrorism group. In the end, Olivia decides to pose as a radical and go undercover to help prevent a future terrorist bombing. She leaves for the assignment, without telling Elliot that she's even leaving.

- Olivia goes on an undercover assignment as of this episode. This storyline was written in due to Hargitay going on maternity leave.
- Despite being the first episode of the eighth season, this episode was filmed around late August to early September as Hargitay had just returned from maternity leave when this episode was filmed just after production of Cage finished and Connie Nielsen had departed.
