Irene Matson is the business partner of her husband Frederic Matson at his hedge fund investment firm, Manson Investments. She ordered the murder of a former employee, Vince Decker, by client and cartel thug Livan Santana for blowing the whistle to the Channel 8 news station. After leaving a family meal early, she confronted the anchor Vince reached out to, Dawn Prescott, shooting her in her head and stealing her laptop to steal evidence.
After colleagues at the studio were ruled out, once Vince’s murder and whistleblowing were connected, Irene’s phone GPS and fingerprints put her at the scene. Going through the daisy chain of witnesses, Irene was pressured to confess when Frederic was near taking the fall for her, as they were afraid Santana’s cartel would kill them.
Irene pleaded guilty to murder and was imprisoned. Her daughter Emma Matson was left to pick up the pieces and handle the death threats alone. (L&O: "Anchors Away")
