Isabella Perez is a victim of nurse Gloria Rhodes, who sterilized her against her consent.
History[]
Isabella had a history of prostitution and drug use, but when she went to Rhodes’ clinic, Operation Remedy, Rhodes would give Isabella pep talks to take care of herself and advance her life. But while Isabella went to college, attended church, and got engaged, Rhodes was guilty of calling Isabella in for a nonexistent pap smear, only to insert a benecrene IUD into Isabella and leave her infertile. Rhodes quickly removed it when complications started and blamed it on a yeast infection. When Isabella asked if she could have kids, Rhodes insulted her by saying Isabella should “straighten out” before paying attention to starting a family, implying Rhodes racially targeted and discriminated Isabella with the IUD.
When Rhodes killed Traci Sands with one of the IUDs, her colleague Savannah Watson led the prosecution to Isabella, who was confirmed to be sterile. She was called to the stand, and she testified about her history, her life’s turnaround, and Rhodes’ crimes. Rhodes’ defense attorney, Paul Robinette, shamed Isabella for her record, so she angrily protested against Rhodes on the stand and said she wanted Rhodes to pay, before she started sobbing by the time the bailiffs escorted her off the stand.
Rhodes was convicted and imprisoned on the charge of second degree manslaughter, and she would await charges for medically maiming Isabella and at least nineteen other women and girls. (L&O: “Birthright”)
