Jake Griffin is a detective with the Manhattan Special Victims Unit, reporting to Captain Olivia Benson and Renee Curry. He is a close friend of Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan.
History[]
Griffin's father Jimmy was partnered with Tynan in the police force until his death. After Jimmy's death, Tynan took Jake under her wing and mentored him to become a police officer himself. While he was a detective, he led Midtown South in robbery collars for three years. Due to his attitude, many criminals call him "Batman" because they believed he was too rough. This later extended to other people in law enforcement.
Griffin introduces himself to Benson, who becomes suspicious as the chief sent him, believing he might be a spy. He denies this, however, all he wants to do is become a better cop and work for her as she is the best boss. After Maya Moretti is raped, Benson orders him to come with her to talk to a victim in the hospital and solve the case. When the case is over, he enters her office and says it's okay if she lets him go. Benson lets him stay, as he comforted another woman who was trafficked by Derek Simpson. After leaving, he enters Tynan's home. (SVU: "A Waiver of Consent")
Griffin learns from a suspect that his father was not the perfect guy he thought he was. After the conclusion of the case, he asks Tynan what Jimmy did. She asks him if he really wants to know and then asks him to look at old cases. (SVU: "Fidelis Ad Mortem")
Trivia[]
- Corey Cott, the actor who plays Griffin, previously guest-starred on an episode of SVU in which he portrays a rapist named Ellis Griffin. The matching surnames between both characters is likely a coincidence.
