Jake Stanton was a retired football player who suffered from dementia after suffering many concussions on the football field. He committed statutory rape with a 14-year-old girl named Vicki Harris, but claims he did not know her age.
After a successful defense by Bayard Ellis resulting in him being unable to be held responsible for his actions as a result of his condition, Stanton stepped outside the courtroom with his his wife, Georgia, and Counselor Ellis into a crowd of people, being followed at a distance by Olivia Benson and Nick Amaro. A uniformed officer emerged from the crowd and asked Stanton for a selfie. While the officer's phone was raised, Stanton grabbed the gun from the man's holster and pointed it at his own head, causing Benson and Amaro to plead with him to put down the weapon. He lowered the gun after beginning to cry, only to quickly spin around on the courtroom steps and shoot himself in the heart with his back to the detectives.
