James McDaniel (born March 25, 1958 in Washington, D.C.) is an American actor who portrayed two characters on Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
McDaniel is best known for his portrayal of Lt./ Capt. Arthur Fancy on the ABC police procedural NYPD Blue (featuring Gordon Clapp, Nicholas Turturro, Kim Delaney, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Sharon Lawrence, and Esai Morales). His television resume includes Detroit 1-8-7 (featuring Michael Imperioli and Aisha Hinds), Orange is the New Black (featuring Selenis Levya, Kate Mulgrew, Taryn Manning, Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Natasha Lyonne), and The Good Wife (featuring Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth, and Christine Baranski). McDaniel also appeared in the 1992 biopic Malcolm X (featuring Delroy Lindo, Theresa Randle, Debi Mazar, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, Al Freeman, Jr., and Giancarlo Esposito) as one of the slain civil rights leader's advisors.
McDaniel starred as General Beers in the 2002 Steven Spielberg science fiction mini-series Taken (with Emily Bergl, Elle Fanning, Adam Kaufman, Joel Gretsch, Anton Yelchin, Catherine Dent, Julie Benz, Tina Holmes, Ryan Hurst, and Desmond Harrington).
