James Turner is a statutory rapist who charmed a teenage girl named Haley Sadler and manipulated her into pursuing a sexual relationship with him, unaware that she was actually his biological daughter.
Background[]
In 2001, Turner charmed and slept with Anna Sadler, the wife of a friend named Chris. As a result, Anna became pregnant with his baby. Anna later told Chris that it was his baby, and for 17 years, Anna kept her daughter Haley's true parentage a secret from everyone else. Since then, Turner became Haley's music teacher. At another point, he befriended musician Alan Hubert when they wrote a dog food jingle.
Suffering a midlife crisis, he fell in love with Haley and manipulated her into pursuing a sexual relationship with him. The two often fooled around in the music room of his house, with his wife noting they would stay for hours, and he kept provocative pictures of her. They then concocted a scheme to make everyone believe Haley was dead, so they could continue their relationship in peace.
Send In The Clowns[]
In March 2018, Turner took Haley and her class to New York on a spring break trip. Haley went missing while out partying with a friend and was presumed to have been murdered by a local butcher, Vincent Drago, who was last seen with her.
When the case is taken to trial and Turner doesn't show up to testify against Drago, the Special Victims Unit grows suspicious. After following several leads, they later find Turner and Haley sleeping together in a mansion in upstate New York, loaned by Hubert. They immediately arrest Turner. As Turner is taken into custody, Haley hysterically claims that he loved her. Turner confessed this to Detectives Odafin Tutuola and Dominick Carisi, Jr. by saying Haley completed him.
Turner is taken to the precinct, where he is slapped by a furious Anna who finally reveals to Chris about the affair and tells Turner he is Haley's real father. She then chastises Turner for sleeping with his own daughter, causing him to suffer an emotional breakdown of disgust at the news. Furious, Chris tries to attack Turner, but they are both separated, and he is taken away. Haley is initially stunned by the revelation, though and happily accepts it as she realizes that was why they were so close.
When taken to court, Turner pled guilty to statutory rape and incest; A.D.A Peter Stone stated he was on suicide watch. (SVU: "Send In The Clowns")
