Janis Donovan is a murderer who faked dissociative identity disorder.

History[]

Janis fabricated the alternate personalities of psychiatrist Dr. Anna Young, Russian woman Petra, temptress Dorothy, little girl Tammy, and violent man Bert. Her episodes alluded to the physical and sexual abuse she suffered from her parents, with signs showing for weeks before she came to the precinct and presented frenzied personality changes, which she became more violent from, even against the team and her own therapist, Dr. Henry Carlisle. She was acquitted by reason of insanity of second-degree murder in the deaths of her abusive parents and is currently institutionalized.

It was later revealed that the reason she faked all of her symptoms was so she and her sister Cass Magnall could get away with killing their parents as retaliation for years of domestic violence. While she got away with the crime due to the standards of double jeopardy protecting her from being arrested, she was horrified to learn Cass would be arrested for her role in the murders. She was last seen pleading to the detectives to release her sister but was ignored, scrambling to come up with the defense. (SVU: "Alternate")
